1. Game Drives in Kasenyi and Ishasha Plains
Morning and afternoon game drives are the core of any Queen Elizabeth safari. The best time is 6:30am and 4:00pm when animals are active. In Kasenyi Plains you will see large herds of Uganda kob, warthogs, waterbuck, and predators like lions and leopards hunting them. The short grass makes spotting easy.
Ishasha sector is different. The plains are more open and the fig trees are home to the famous tree climbing lions. These lions climb trees to escape tsetse flies and to get a cool view of prey. A full day in Ishasha is included in our 3-day packages. Game drives are done in a 4x4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof and professional guide.
2. Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise - $30
The 2-hour boat cruise on Kazinga Channel is the highlight for most visitors. It runs at 9:00am and 3:00pm daily from Mweya. The channel connects Lake Edward and Lake George and has over 2,000 hippos, plus Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffalo, and over 500 bird species including African fish eagle and pelicans.
You get within 10 meters of wildlife from the boat. This is the safest and closest way to see hippos and elephants. The cost is $30 per person and is included in all our packages. Sunset cruises are available on request.
3. Kyambura Gorge Chimpanzee Trekking - $100
Kyambura Gorge is called "Valley of Apes". It’s a 100-meter deep forest gorge where a habituated chimpanzee community lives. Trekking takes 2-3 hours with 1 hour spent with the chimps. The permit costs $100 compared to $250 in Kibale, so it’s great for budget travelers.
Unlike Kibale, Kyambura has smaller groups and a more adventurous trek down steep trails. Success rate is about 70%. You can combine this with game drives on the same day. Book permits 30 days in advance for peak season.
4. Tree Climbing Lions Tracking in Ishasha
