For 90% of first-timers, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park wins. 22+ families across 4 sectors (Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, Nkuringo) means more permit availability, even in high season July-Aug, Dec-Feb. Mgahinga has only Nyakagezi family – 8 permits per day – sells out 8-10 months ahead. If your dates are fixed, book Bwindi.
Mgahinga is usually easier. Bamboo and open slopes vs Bwindi's thick tangles and steep ridges. Both parks have no max age, min 15 years, and $20 porter service we highly recommend for 60+ or kids. Rangers in Mgahinga can adjust trek faster. But Bwindi Buhoma sector also has easy/medium options – ask Semu Gorilla Safaris to request a close family.
