3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Itinerary 2026 & 2027 – Detailed Day by Day
Day 1: Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Musanze (Volcanoes National Park)
You are picked at 8am from Kigali airport or hotel. Short Kigali Genocide Memorial tour (1hr), then 2.5hrs scenic drive to Musanze – gateway to Volcanoes National Park. En route views of rolling hills. Afternoon visit Iby'Iwacu Cultural Village for traditional dance and banana beer. Overnight: Da Vinci Lodge (mid-range) or Virunga Lodge (luxury) – 10 mins from Kinigi park headquarters for 7am briefing. Dinner included.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Day – 1 Hour With Gorillas in Volcanoes National Park
5:30am breakfast, 6:30am transfer to Kinigi headquarters. 7am briefing by RDB rangers, grouping in 8 persons per 12 gorilla families – Susa, Igisha, Karisimbi, Amahoro. Trek 30min to 4hrs depending on family location – Sabyinyo easy, Karisimbi difficult. Once found, 1 hour strictly with gorillas at 7 meters – see silverback, females, babies. Rangers explain behavior. Trek certificate after. Return to lodge for lunch, optional Musanze caves or relax. Permit $1500 included – we show official RDB receipt.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking or Mount Bisoke Hike & Return to Kigali
Early 7am golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes – 2 troops habituated, 90% sighting rate, playful endangered primates only found in Virungas. Alternative: Mount Bisoke hike 3711m (6hrs) with crater lake at top. After trek, lunch then drive back to Kigali – 2.5hrs, drop at airport for evening flight or hotel.
